Wildlife

What can you expect to see at Press Mains Cottages and the surrounding area?

Our unique accommodation offers you the chance to see all sorts of wildlife from the comfort of your cottage.

We have installed a series of CCTV cameras over a number of wild life sites. Depending on the season you will be able to watch nesting swallows, barn owls, a badger's sett, red squirrels, bat roosting box and a blue tit nest.

The pictures are transmitted directly into the comfort of your cottage, where you have a choice of 4 channels to view. The image below have been taken from our cameras over the past few months...

We are also building a wildlife hide to view a red squirrel feeding point and a roe deer watering hole along with numerous birds. This depends on the co-operation of the wild life themselves. We are creating way-marked walks around the farm which should help our visitors to understand the relationship between modern farming and wild life.

The East Berwickshire Area...

In addition to the wildlife on our farm, East Berwickshire boasts a vast array of wildlife – birds, animals, insects, plants and trees which can be seen and enjoyed by visitors to East Berwickshire now and in the future. Whatever the season, whatever the weather a visit to this area is rewarding for nature lovers.

For nesting seabirds at St Abbs Head, come between May and July. June and July are when most grassland flowers can be seen. Enjoy butterflies galore in late summer. The colours of the trees in autumn are simply staggering. A walk along the shoreline at any time will reveal creatures like anemones, crabs and barnacles and a huge variety of shells. Eyemouth Harbour plays host year round to many birds including swans, and seals are regular visitors too.
